Improvement

Home

Improvement is a natural process and we all have an innate desire to improve.

Have you ever heard the phrase "If it isn't broken then leave it"?  This is the mantra that maintains stability and status quo.  It is also the mantra that inhibits both innovation and improvement. It is both OK and not OK at the same time.

How about "If it isn't broken then improve it"?

We all know from experience that chance events can lead to improvement.  We also know that chance alone is more likely to lead to disappointment. So we can't leave improvement in the hands of chance.

Improvement is not luck, or guess-work. Improvement is a Science and that means we know how to do it.

Improvement Science is a body of knowledge that describes how to improve. Safely and consistently.

Improvement Science is not the same as Research.  Research is designed to find out what is possible.

Improvement Science is not the same as Audit. Audit is designed to find out what is actual.

Improvement Science describes how to reduce the gap between what is actual and what is possible.

Improvement Science includes a combination of theory, technique, tools and training.

Improvement Science is the application of that knowledge and skill to real problems.

Improvement Science is about timely action.

Improvement Science describes how to best intervene in a process or system to make a sustained improvement.

Improvement Science can be applied to any process or system.

Improvement Science starts with the individual who adopts an attitude that encompasses Three Wins:

Build confidence by delivering your best to yourself and others

Build optimism through motivating others by your example

Build achievement by repeatedly exceeding your own personal best.
